I'm Baaaaaaaack!

A whole week since last I posted. And since I've read any blogs.
I managed to blow up my computer.
Well, not actually blow up. I mean, there weren't flames, and explode-y noises like in the movies.
But smoke did come out the back of it.
My CPU fan was totally shot, so I had to get a new one.

In the time since last I posted, I've recieved my project spectrum postcard, framed it (I thought it was that cool Erin), finished the front of the Punk rock backpack, finished Lindsay's discloths, and done five more squares for my Blankets for Canada blanket. I've even crocheted some of the squares. Yes, that dirty C word that it seems most knitters hate. I don't see what's so bad about it. I quite enjoy it, though not as much as knitting.
I've also officially completed grade 11! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
Wrote my last exam today. AP physics. It wasn't too bad, I think I did fairly decent actually. I got an 86 on my Social exam, bringing my overall mark to 86. Next year, I'll have Math 30 Pure, Chemistry 30, Social 30, Math 31, AP Physics 30, and English 30-1. Which is an entirely academic, and very hard load. So I'm very much looking forwards to the summer.
I leave for Ontario with Patrick a month today! Excited excited!
And now, I'm off to sit in the cold dark recesses of my basement, as it is 40 billion degrees out, and I feel like knitting.

Yay! Yayayayayayay!

Finally. I'd ordered "Socks, socks, socks" from the library a while ago, and it came today! I love working in a library. So much.
I've now decided that I need to knit every sock in that book. Especially the pair with the clocks. I have a thing for clocks. And the brightly coloured travelling socks. I love those.
Furthermore, I finally get to start a knitting group right here at the library. Granted, it's for kids aged 8-14, but who says that can't be fun? I've asked that they bring their own supplies, but I'll wind up bringing my extra plastic needles and acrylic yarn juuuust in case. I can't wait, we start July 5th at 2:00. I think after teaching them the basics, we'll do squares for Blankets for Canada. Speaking of which, I'm almost done my first blanket for them.
In other knitty news, I'm still trudging along on the backpack. I've decided that I need another pair of size 6 needles, because every project I want to knit requires them. Then again, having only one pair forces me to actually finish what I start.
I've been working lots of overtime at the store too (go me, two part-time jobs!) because we're short staffed, and no one likes my boss. But, don't tell her that. So, I'll have lots of monies to take to Ontarioland with me. Which is good.
Thursday, I'm chaperoning my mom's grade 4/5 class field trip to Calaway Park. That should be fun. I plan to bring my knitting and recruit for the knitting program. And now, I guess I should finish the mail and such.

:(

So, I've hardly any knitting news. I've finished Lindsay's dishcloths, and am making great progress on the backpack.
But, you already know what those dishcloths look like. And miles of bright orange stockinette isn't too exciting.
And, chances are, because I've blown the CPU fan in my computer by overclocking the processor, it's about to shut down any minute now.
So, I leave you with this:
It's an "I'd rather be knitting" button. Made by a lady I know in town who...um...makes buttons. She's utterly cool. Utterly.
So, go look at her Etsy shop (all of the millions of people who read this *eyeroll*) and buy some of her buttons!
I'm off to knit. And find stamps for my postcard for the swap...

Little Better....

Whoo-eee. It's been a rough couple of days.
I'm over the whole not getting accepted to HYRS thing. Yeah, it's a bummer, but I'll live. That was a bit of a rough day. Wednesday, I was all sick in bed with food poisoning. Yup, food poisoning. Not from my cooking I might add. It was pretty narsty (yes, narsty), with the puking and the hacking and the way things refused to stop spinning.
But, nothing makes me feel better like a new addition to my stash! That's right, my Knitpicks yarn finally came! Seriously, seeing that little package on the counter made everything better. See the pictures? SEE?!
It's so PRETTY! The picture does NOT do it justice, at all. Like I had already said, I ordered two balls each of Snapdragon and Sunset, which are both self-striping! I absolutely cannot WAIT to turn them into socks!
So, after Wednesday was Thursday, which included a mad rush. I had to finish the scrapbook we made for our band director, who's leaving us after six years. We presented it to her at our Fine Arts Gala (affectionately known as the FAG) last night, where I also won three awards. Band Citizenship, Outstanding Musician, and a copy of the award we all got, Superior at the Alberta Festival of Bands. Which, I might add, is the highest and hardest rating to earn. We're just that good.
Then, there was the rushing to finish my social term paper, which was finally cranked off at 9:30 this morning. Nothing like waiting till the last minute I guess.
So now, I'm done school, with the exception of my two exams, which aren't for another week and a half. I've got my next few knitting projects all lined up. First, I have to finish Lindsay's dishcloths. Then, I'm making the Punk Rock Backpack from Debbie Stoller's "Stitch n Bitch." It's either for me, or the boyfriend's sister. Prolly the latter. After that comes socks, and then a sweater. I plan to be busy knitting all summer.
Oh, and does anyone know what regulations regarding knitting needles on a plane are? Anyone?
I'm off to go finish my postcard for the swap. For now, I leave you with a picture snapped by my sister of me er....enjoying my new yarn.
We call it "O rly?"

Thunder

I know, this is non-knitting related, but I just feel like writing for the sake of writing.

I had a much better day today than yesterday. Recieved a lovely rejection letter in the mail from HYRS, which was alright. I cried a little more, but I think I'm fine now. But, one door closes, another opens. I'm going to Ontario with Patrick earlier now. We leave July 27 and get back August 10. It'll be nice to get away from everything. From work, from my town, and as bad as it sounds, my family.
We love each other, but in all honesty, we drive one another completely batty.

It's thundering now. The kind of thunder that starts as a deep rumble somewhere off in the distance, and washes over everything in a matter of a few seconds, leaving the most absolute calm in its wake. The kind of thunder that precedes a warm rain storm, complete with flashes of light that are bright enough to read by, if only for a few seconds. And you can't help but drop whatever it is that you're doing and run outside to stand in the rain. It soaks straight through almost instantly, but you're completely oblivious, because there's electricity in the air, and nothing else really matters because you're right here right now and everything is so calm and smells so good, and nothing could possibly go wrong because you are here.

That's pretty much how I feel today. I'll post about knitting tomorrow.

Bummer.

Bummer.
You know those kind of days, where everything just sucks?
Yeah. That's today.
It started off good.
Wait. That's a lie.
I forgot about this morning's physics test.
Which still would have been okay, had I actually read/understood some of the unit. But I didn't, and the test may as well have been written in Swahili.
I managed to scrape up an 80. How, I'll never know.
It gets worse.
I applied for this really great summer internship at the University. Medical research, six weeks, $1500 paycheque at the end.
I was so sure that I had gotten in. Only a handful of people applied.
But, I didn't make it. I guess my grades weren't good enough. It called for an 85% average, and mine is 84.89%. You wouldn't think that would make a difference, but I guess it must.
I'm trying to look at things from the bright side. This means that I can go see Patrick's family, and I can work to save more for University and the Eurotrip.
But as exciting as all of that sounds, it's really not much consolation.

My first pair of socks!!!!

I cannot begin to tell you how happy I am right now.
I finished the socks.
The wonderful, wonderful socks.
They look so good.
I have never been prouder.
And now, as I am at a loss for words, here are pictures of the socks.
One sock. The left sock. I love how the yarn did the whole stripey thing. That was completely unintentional, but I like it.

And both socks. I did the whole "slip one knit one" heel flap, which turned out nicely. The striping almost matches, but not quite, which is cool.
And now, the socks are off to their new home. Emma's feet. They're for her upcoming trip to Japan.
And now, I go back to work. :( Poo, no knitting there.

Cosmically Un-important

I'm at work.
And I've done all of my work.
Absolutely all of it.
So now, I get to puruse and update.
I must say, looking at all of the knitting blogs out there is some crazy good inspiration. My fingers are twitching with the urge to knit.
I'm almost done the second sock. These are good luck socks for a friend of mine to wear to Japan. She needs socks for tea ceremony, and while traditionally these socks should be white, she's obtained special permission to wear the multicoloured, brightly variegated socks that I've knit. They're looking so so so good, if I do say so myself.
Which I just did.
I'd never made socks before, because I was under the impression that they were difficult things, to be attempted by only the most advanced of knitters. I put it off because I thought that it required extreme patience, a virtue which I do not possess.
I will say, I was horribly, horribly wrong.
They are the single easiest things that I have ever made.
That being said, I cannot wait to make more.

I had ordered a copy of "Stitch and Bitch" from another library (I work at the library....) and it came in today. So now, my list of summer projects has been lengthed to include almost every single project in that book.
I kid you not.
This book is AMAZING.

Right. And before I go, I figured it worth mentioning that after much hard work and trying, I'm finally allowed to start a kniting group. It's being done as a library group, who will meet on Wednesday nights. I'm to teach whomever signs up how to knit. The first project will be squares for "Blankets for Canada", and then we'll see where it goes from there.
I know that no one really reads this, except for my teachers, who only read it to mark my independent projects. Which consists of knitting, and configuring HTML codes.
But still. I think it's worth mentioning.
